With this model, everyone pays a similar percentage of their income for the same readings, classes, and services, ensuring that those with lower incomes can still access the support and guidance they need.
This also allows me to receive fair compensation for my time, experience & labor.
I understand that financial circumstances can vary greatly, and that's why I encourage all clients to consider their unique financial situation when choosing their sliding scale payment. While income level is often a key factor in determining the appropriate payment amount, there are many other factors that can impact financial stability, such as class background and access to class privileges.
I ask that clients reflect on these factors when choosing their payment and use their annual or household income as a general starting point.
Please consider your privileges when selecting your payment on the sliding scale. Pay what you can rather than what you'd like to pay, taking into account your personal financial situation and commitment to economic solidarity.
Here is a short list of guidelines as you navigate the question of how much you can afford:
CONSIDER PAYING LESS ON THE SALE IF YOU:
Are made vulnerable under systemic racism and white supremacy
Are unemployed or underemployed
Are supporting dependents
Have survival-related debt
Have medical expenses not covered by insurance
Have out of pocket tuition/educational expenses
Have immigration-related expenses
Are a senior citizen
CONSIDER PAYING MORE ON THE SCALE IF YOU:
Have access to social power and earning privilege due to being able-bodied, cisgender, heterosexual, white, or other factors
Have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education
Have investments, retirement accounts or inherited money
Have access to family money and resources in times of need
Can take paid time off and travel recreationally
Work part time by choice
Are of ownership class
Everyone's financial situation is unique and I encourage you to be honest with yourself when choosing a payment amount. Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, I ask you to recognize this as a choice.
